Inland Empire Top 3 Stories of 2013

Wednesday, January 15, 2014

Like most blogs and opinionated websites Empire 411 also has a take on the top stories of 2013. However Empire 411 is slightly cooler, focusing on the top Inland Empire stories. Obviously the list can easily reach 100 but even 10 would be to much for a breakfast blog article. So take a walk with us as we turn down memory lane for 3 of the most exciting news 2013 gave our Inland Empire community.

The most trending IE topic of 2013 was easily the story of ex LAPD officer Christopher Dorner who's manhunt invaded 3 Southern California counties and took nation by storm. It was a sad story which became seeded back in 2008 after the disgruntled Dorner lost his job. The manhunt finally ended in the Inland Empire after officer level Dorner and the Big Bear home in took bunker in.

The #2 Story of the year did not garnish as much media attention as the Dorner manhunt but this story is arguably just as important. in fact the story may have actually come from that very similar evil which may have provoked the Dorner incident. Later in the year news broke that three former Moreno Valley city employees filed suit against the city on Oct. 21. Paul Early, Anne Schneider and Albert Brady allege they were retaliated against for doing their jobs and that City Council members and top city managers gave public officials and developers special treatment and protected officials who broke laws.  The political corruption probe in Moreno Valley widened as the FBI on Oct. 22 subpoenaed the city for a vast number of records that go far beyond what the public already knows about the investigation. FBI investigators served the subpoenas just hours before the City Council was set to consider revising the city’s schedule for destroying records and we are still anxious to heard the outcome of this investigation.

Story #3 is much more uplifting, as the Inland Empire's very own Corona Centennial High set records on an ironically historic night. After the final whistle sang Upland High's 56 points on Nov. 29 was nowhere near enough offense to avoid a humiliating loss to Corona’s Centennial High. Upland's Defense never showed up as Corona scored an astonishing 86. The high school team ended up rushing for 964 yards, setting local, state and national offensive records. the most ironic part of the evening was learning the Centennial High Boys basketball team also beat Fresno Central in basketball by 86-56, the exact same score, on the exact same night.

These are just 3 of the years most talked about soap operas and please feel free to reflect on the year in review. The past is only a memory we can use as a very powerful tool, good bad or indifferent these our the days of our lives. Together we can make it better. Good bye 2013 and good luck to each of you in 2014.
